Freddy Cole Jazz death: Sad news that beloved Freddy Cole Jazz American jazz Singer at the age of 88 has passed away has been confirmed and condolences have been pouring in on social media.

The hike starts out with stone steps winding down into Cedar Creek Canyon.  When you reach the bottom, the trail is adorned by large trees  and follows the creek till you reach 95 foot Cedar Falls; one of the tallest continuously flowing waterfalls in the state.  It is a 2 mile round trip.  As you get closer to the falls you see less dirt trail and the more rocks till you see more and more massive stone boulders that you have to climb on top of and over in order to reach the pond at the foot of the falls.

It was a challenging hike and the tranquil falls and serene setting was a wonderful and satisfying reward for our efforts; not to mention we were the only ones there.  On our way back we climbed back over the boulders and started back to find the dirt trail.  The trail was first cluttered with medium to large rocks.  As I continued on the path, I kept trying to step on the rocks since there were more of them than flat dirt.  But about 20 minutes later I realized that I was looking for rocks to step on instead of flat smooth surface.

Last month my husband and I were hiking in the beautiful mountains of Petit Jean state park in Arkansas.  We both love day hiking and we were happy as clams trekking on a moderate to strenuous difficult trail. In an “a-ha” moment, it was made clear to me that sometimes we get used to climbing over and on top of boulders, obstacles or barriers that we fail to see the clear path.  I was so used to the busyness and hard work that I was not allowing myself to see the path of least resistance.

It can cost so much.  Love is wonderful and expansive one moment and the next, cut you to the quick to remind you that you may not be in control of your own heart.  Both pleasure and pain all wrapped up in one neat package. I recently read a poem by a friend and fellow word expressionist that reminded me of what we all want; and that is to be noticed, to be valued, to be loved.  For me the poem exemplifies our desire for connections wither it is romantic love, agape love or parental love.

I think at least once a day, I fall in love with someone. I know, I’m fickle, I always have been. But you, you who shine, you need to know this. That there are others just like me. We see you. And someone right now, just out of your sight. See’s what you are doing. And smiles. And someone else, just out of earshot. They heard what you said. And they fell. For just that instant, they fell in love with you. So if you think you are safe. Love is said to make the world go around but for today, may it make you smile.
